Introduction
Messenger ("we", "us", or "our") is an Android SMS & MMS messaging application developed by Codelamda. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use Messenger on your Android device.
By installing and using Messenger, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please uninstall the application.
Data We Access
Messenger accesses data on your device solely to provide its core messaging functionality. All data described below is accessed locally, remains on your device, and is never transmitted to third-party servers by us.
SMS & MMS messages — Read to display your inbox, sent items, and conversation history. We write messages when you send or receive them as the default SMS handler.
Contacts — Read to display names, profile photos, and phone numbers alongside your conversations. We never modify or upload your contact list.
Phone & call state — Read to support after-call messaging prompts (offering to send an SMS when a call ends).
Camera & media — Camera access is used only when you choose to capture a photo to attach to an MMS message. Gallery/media access uses the Android photo picker, which requires no special permission.
Notifications — We display notifications for new incoming messages. You can manage or disable these at any time in your device settings.
Permissions Explained
Below is every permission declared in our app and exactly why it is required.
Third-Party Services
Messenger integrates the following third-party SDKs. Each has its own privacy policy and data practices independent of ours.
Google AdMob — Displays in-app advertisements for non-premium users. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve personalised ads in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of personalised ads via your device's advertising settings (Settings → Google → Ads).
Google Fonts (Lexend) — The Lexend typeface is downloaded from Google Fonts servers on first launch. Google may log the download request (IP address, device model). See Google Fonts Privacy FAQ.
Coil Image Library — Loads contact profile photos from Android's contacts ContentProvider locally. No data is sent externally by Coil for contacts.
Data Storage & Security
All message data, conversation labels, preferences, and contact information are stored exclusively on your device using Android's Room database and DataStore APIs. This data is protected by Android's standard app sandboxing.
We do not operate any servers that store your messages, contacts, or personal information. No backups are sent to our infrastructure.
Android's built-in backup mechanism (Google Drive backup) may back up app preferences as per your device backup settings. This is governed by Google's policies, not ours. You can disable app backup in Android settings.
Children's Privacy
Messenger is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe your child has used the application, please contact us and we will provide guidance on removal of the app from their device.
Your Rights & Controls
Because all data is stored on your device, you have full control:
Delete data — Uninstalling Messenger removes all app data from your device. You can also clear app data via Settings → Apps → Messenger → Storage → Clear Data.
Revoke permissions — You can revoke any permission granted to Messenger via Settings → Apps → Messenger → Permissions. Note that revoking SMS permissions will prevent the app from functioning as an SMS client.
Opt out of ads — Upgrade to Messenger Premium to remove all advertisements, or opt out of personalised ads via your device's advertising ID settings.
Notifications — Disable message notifications at any time via Settings → Apps → Messenger → Notifications.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via an in-app notice. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Continued use of Messenger after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
